FIGHTING UNREMARKABLE AUTO REPLIES SINCE 2010

They’re arguably the worst thing that ever happened to mankind – auto replies. Join my fight to get rid of unremarkable out-of-office replies and other auto replies. To help, I’ve collected some great positive exceptions, starting with the one below. Let’s turn automatic into automagic.

What will usually happen is the more that companies and organisations know about you, the more and the more different messages they will send you. Bought sports goods once? They will send you sports emails. Bought kids toys once? They will send you offers for toys. Bought a book? Book retargeting on social channels. Looking for

While the opposite should be true – the more companies know about you, the less they should and could email you. They should help you save time by removing irrelevant offers, messages and emails.

Serial entrepreneur and investor Kevin Rose sort of felt the same when he unsubscribed 5000 people from his newsletter because they had not opened his last 4 newsletters. Don’t send more newsletters, send less.

Friends,
Member update: We’ve lost some newsletter subscribers. We dropped from 61,823 members to 55,787. I purposely removed 6,036 people that hadn’t opened the last four newsletters.
Why? Occasionally I offer small quantities of products, early access to beta software, etc. I’d rather save these offers for our dedicated readers, while also sparing their inbox from email never read.
Industry average open rates for email newsletters is 15.6%. At the time of this email, our open rate is right at 70%. I’d like to continue to push that higher. Thanks for being one of our loyal subscribers.
No podcast this month, but as always, great stories. Enjoy this issue!
