Strategy on a page puts a whole strategy on one page: why, how and what. It is the visual of the no-nonsense strategy model.

Why one page?

Most strategies live in a long document or a deck of fifty slides. Nobody repeats a deck. A page you can hold up, test line by line and hang on a wall.

For me as a strategist it is also a mirror: have I really understood it? It shows when too many models, frameworks or layers have been used. And because it is so condensed, it exposes the noise between the opinions in a management team. That helps you get to the core of the problem, or of the discussion. So it makes sense that this page sometimes sets off a lot of discussion.

Once it is finished, it is a solid base. For the stories you tell, which then always share the same core. For developing the strategy further. Or simply as the one slide you take under your arm, to the supervisory board or the executive board.

In English, Strategy On A Page spells SOAP. In Dutch it is Strategie Op Een Pagina: SOEP. Which means that when it works, we can say “we hebben er SOEP van gemaakt”.
